Chapter 11 - Why he wanted primary residence

I expected a hidden affair.
There was none.
I expected Reid to say I was a bad mother.
He did not.
His reasoning was more complicated.
My job:
Chief operating officer at a regional healthcare-services company.
Two nights each week I worked late.
Occasional travel.
Reid’s schedule looked more predictable on paper.
But his upcoming managing-partner role would likely increase dinners and travel too.
So why him?
The house.
School proximity.
Constance.
Continuity.
And ego.
He believed:
“I can keep Perry’s environment stable while we figure ourselves out.”
I asked:
“Why not fifty-fifty?”
He said:
“Transitions are hard on him.”
“Then why move his mother out?”
Silence.
Because Reid’s version of stability centered Reid.
His house.
His mother.
His schedule.
May you like
His career.
I was the variable to be moved.
