Chapter 25 - Perry spends the night with Reid again

Six months after the closet incident, Perry asked:
“Can I sleep at Daddy’s?”
The house was still technically ours, though I had not moved back.
I said:
“Yes, if you want.”
Reid had completed:
Parenting program.
Most diversion requirements.
Months of safe visits.
Constance would not be there.
Perry packed:
Pajamas.
Dinosaur.
Two books.
Then stopped near laundry room.
Door was gone.
Reid had removed it.
Not theatrically destroyed.
A contractor took it off.
The laundry space now had an open archway.
Perry stared.
“Where door?”
Reid said:
“I took it away.”
“Why?”
“Because I never want that room used for punishment again.”
Perry walked inside.
Looked at washer.
Dryer.
Shelves.
No pillow.
No blanket.
Then:
“Just laundry?”
May you like
“Just laundry.”
That was enough.
