Chapter 15 - Constance’s plea

Constance resolved her criminal case first.
She pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor child-endangerment/unlawful-restraint offense.
Sentence:
Twelve months probation.
Forty hours community service.
Family-boundary education.
No unsupervised contact with Perry during probation unless approved by both parents and consistent with family-court orders.
Fine.
No jail.
She remained convinced the system was dramatic.
At sentencing she said:
“I was disciplining my grandson.”
The judge answered:
“A caregiver may impose reasonable boundaries. Locking a distressed six-year-old in a utility room for behavioral compliance is not the boundary this court is endorsing.”

Constance looked insulted.
That was probably the first consequence she could not socially smooth over.
