Chapter 6 - The dinner guests were not judging Perry

Martin Shaw called me two days later.
I almost did not answer.
“Winslet, I want to clarify something.”
“What?”
“Reid seemed worried Perry would interrupt the dinner.”
“I know.”
“Nobody cared.”
I stayed quiet.
Martin continued:
“Last month Perry came downstairs during another meeting and showed me his dinosaur.”
“I remember.”
“It was fine.”
“Reid told me you were annoyed.”
“I wasn’t.”
There.
Another small lie.
Not:
Martin demanded quiet.
Not:
The firm complained.
Reid invented pressure and then responded to his own invention.
Martin said:
“The managing-partner process has nothing to do with whether someone’s six-year-old makes noise at home.”
I almost laughed.
“Tell Reid.”
“I have.”
