Chapter 5 - Why Reid needed silence

Reid was a senior partner at Harrow & Vale Advisory, a private investment and restructuring firm.

Successful.

Prestigious.

He was being considered for:

Managing partner.

The dinner mattered.

Two members of the selection committee were there.

So was a prospective institutional client.

Reid had spent months cultivating a reputation for:

Control.

Discipline.

Stability.

The firm handled distressed companies.

Executives hired Reid when organizations were chaotic.

He was the man who entered chaos and made numbers behave.

At home, Perry was six.

Six-year-olds are not spreadsheets.

They interrupt.

Spill.

Cry.

Ask questions during introductions.

Reid understood that most days.

But during important professional moments, something changed.

He wanted the house to reflect him.

Quiet.

Polished.

Controlled.

Perry did not always cooperate.

That embarrassed him.

May you like

Not because his colleagues were cruel.

Because Reid believed they were measuring everything.
