Chapter 23 - Reid admits why he kept me uninformed

Marriage counseling.

Week fourteen.

The therapist asked:

“Why didn’t you tell Winslet you had consulted a family lawyer?”

Reid said:

“I wanted options before the conversation.”

“What were you afraid of?”

“That she would leave immediately.”

I almost laughed from pain.

“So you prepared for me leaving because you were afraid telling me would make me leave.”

“Yes.”

Then:

“I thought if I had a plan, I could keep things stable.”

“Stable for whom?”

He looked at me.

“For me.”

Finally.

Not Perry.

Not family.

Him.

Planning gave Reid relief from uncertainty.
