Chapter 8 - The slap cases

Constance had:
Redness.
Bruising near cheekbone.
A sore hip from falling.
No fracture.
No concussion.
I told police:
“I slapped her.”
Why?
“She locked my crying child in a closet.”
Was Perry in immediate danger at the exact second I slapped her?
He was still locked inside.
That helped my defense.
But I did not pretend every ounce of force was necessary.
I had been furious.
Prosecutors reviewed.
Constance’s act:
Intentional confinement of a child.
Possible misdemeanor unlawful restraint/child endangerment depending statute.
Reid’s role:
He had instructed use of the latch under certain circumstances but was not present when Constance physically locked Perry in.
Still potentially relevant.
My slap:
Potential simple assault.
Nobody got instant felony charges.
May you like
Nobody was arrested in front of cameras.
Facts first.
