Chapter 2 - The bracelet

The object Louisa supposedly stole was Lydia Miller’s gold bracelet.
Diamond clasp.
Family piece.
Worth around:
$8,000.
Not priceless.
Not insignificant.
Lydia wore it constantly.
The night before, our extended family had gathered at my in-laws’ house for an early Christmas dinner.
I had brought Louisa because my husband, David, was working out of state.
Louisa wandered between:
The living room.
Kitchen.
Playroom.
Guest bedroom.
At some point, Lydia removed the bracelet because the clasp irritated her wrist.
She placed it on a side table.
An hour later:
Gone.
The search began.
Couch cushions.
Bathroom.
Coat pockets.
Gift bags.
Then Heather said:
May you like
“I saw Louisa near the table.”
That was all it took.
