Chapter 22 - Louisa grows hair back

Children’s hair grows.
Simple biological fact.
Emotionally, it felt monumental.
For months, Louisa refused haircuts.
Even trims.
We let her choose.
Then one morning she asked:
“Can I have bangs?”
I almost cried.
We found a stylist experienced with anxious children.
No electric clippers.
Only scissors.
Louisa sat in my lap.
The stylist showed her each tool first.
One tiny trim.
Then another.
When finished, Louisa looked in mirror.
“Pretty.”
“Yes.”
She touched her hair.
May you like
“Mine.”
That word mattered.
