Chapter 4 - Why I left Louisa there overnight

Why did I leave?
Because I did not know any of this would happen.
After the argument, Lydia apologized.
Sort of.
She said:
“We’re all tired. Let’s look tomorrow.”
Louisa was exhausted.
Snow was falling harder.
My apartment was forty minutes away.
Lydia offered to keep Louisa overnight because I had an early prenatal appointment? No. Not pregnant. Better avoid. She had an early work meeting.
I had a 7:00 a.m. work presentation.
David called.
He said:
“Mom will calm down.”
I believed him.
That was my mistake.
I kissed Louisa goodnight in the guest room.
She whispered:
“I didn’t take Grandma thing.”
I said:
“I know.”
Then I drove home.
At 6:48 the next morning, my phone received a motion alert from the hidden camera.
I had installed it weeks earlier.
