Chapter 9

Before Vance could take three full strides toward the heavy oak doors, the Caldwell estate's private security team exploded into action. Responding to the unmistakable shift in their employer's demeanor, four massive men in dark suits descended upon the fleeing brother. They tackled Vance to the marble floor with brutal, professional efficiency, pinning his arms behind his back and neutralizing the threat in seconds.

Simultaneously, two more guards rushed forward to detain Sabrina. They hauled the blonde woman up from the floor by her arms. Her ivory silk gown was hopelessly torn, her face stained with tears and blood from Grace’s devastating kick. She struggled weakly, but the guards' grips were ironclad.

Grace Holloway did not join the fray. Her duty was singular and absolute. As the chaos briefly surged, Grace stepped smoothly in front of Lily, positioning her athletic body as a physical shield between the little girl and the detained villains.

Grace stood tall, her brown hair framing her calm, resolute face. Her black-and-white maid uniform starkly contrasted with the opulent, ruined elegance of the evening. She kept her hands relaxed but ready, her eyes sweeping the room for any secondary threats, her breathing slow and natural.

Sabrina, held firmly by the guards, glared at Grace with sheer, unadulterated hatred. The venom in the woman's eyes was palpable, a silent promise of future retribution.

Grace met her gaze without a single micro-expression of fear.

"Your wedding is over, Mr. Caldwell," Grace said, her voice cold, resolute, and piercingly clear. She didn't say it with triumph; she said it as an undeniable statement of fact.

Ethan didn't look at Sabrina as she was dragged away, sobbing and cursing under her breath. He didn't look at Vance, who was being hauled out the service doors by the security team.

Ethan’s eyes were locked entirely on his niece.

The billionaire dropped heavily to his knees on the hard marble floor, completely disregarding the pristine fabric of his navy suit. He reached out with trembling hands and pulled Lily into his chest. He buried his face in her lavender dress, his broad shoulders shaking with silent, restrained emotion. He didn't wail or scream. He simply held the child he had almost lost to the darkness, his breath catching in his throat as the immense weight of his own blindness crashed down upon him.

Lily wrapped her small arms tightly around her uncle’s neck, burying her face against his collar. The silence in the ballroom was absolute, the wealthy guests standing frozen, witnessing a moment of profound, raw humanity that stripped away all their pretenses.

Grace watched them, her posture softening just a fraction. She took a half-step back, intending to slip away into the shadows of the catering kitchen, her job done. But as she moved, Ethan raised his head.
