Chapter 47

The connection died, leaving a suffocating silence in the sunlit kitchen. Dante slowly lowered the phone, his mind racing through a thousand lethal calculations. Vieri’s threat was not an empty bluff. If the Phantoms were truly en route, the villa’s defenses, robust as they were, would face a siege of devastating, military-grade precision.

"He’s sending a black-ops team," Dante said, looking at Maya. The terrifying reality of their situation stripped away any lingering illusions of a peaceful resolution. "We have less than ten hours."

Maya didn't panic. She didn't scream or cry. The brave, kind-hearted waitress who had transformed into the matriarch of the Russo family stepped forward, her brown eyes blazing with an unyielding, fierce determination. "Then we don't wait for them to breach the gates. We end this before the sun goes down."

Dante looked at her, profoundly awestruck by her courage. "Maya, I cannot negotiate with a man who holds a gun to my family's head."

"You aren't going to negotiate, Dante," Maya said, her voice sharp and clear. "You are going to completely obliterate his leverage. Vieri said his true wealth is insulated. But nobody is entirely insulated in the Golden Circle. They are an alliance built on mutual greed and paranoia. If you can't break Vieri’s bank, you break his alliances."

Dante’s pale gray eyes widened as the sheer brilliance of Maya’s strategy clicked into place. "The black ledger," Dante whispered. "Elena’s encrypted files didn't just contain Vieri’s financials. It contained the blackmail material the Circle uses against its own members."

Dante kissed Maya passionately, an explosive surge of hope and adrenaline flooding his veins. He rushed down into the subterranean cellar, Matteo hot on his heels.

"Matteo, redirect all processing power to decrypting the secondary payload of the ledger," Dante barked, taking his seat at the command terminal. "Vieri is a high-ranking member of the Circle, but he isn't the apex. He answers to a board of shadowy aristocrats. I want every dirty secret, every illegal arms deal, every political bribe Vieri has ever orchestrated isolated and packaged."

For six agonizing hours, the cellar hummed with frantic, relentless energy. Keyboards clattered like machine guns in a digital warzone. Finally, at four in the afternoon, the decryption algorithm flashed a brilliant, victorious green.

"I have it, Boss," the lead technician announced, sweat dripping from his brow. "We have hard proof that Vieri has been skimming profits from the Circle’s central treasury for the last five years to fund his private army."

Dante smiled—a cold, terrifying smile that promised absolute ruin. "Connect me to the encrypted dark-web servers of the Golden Circle's high council. It’s time to show them that there is a thief in their house."
