Chapter 44

The subterranean wine cellar of the villa, once the site of a bloody standoff with Volkov’s assassins, had been transformed into a state-of-the-art cyber-warfare hub. Cool, blue light from a dozen high-resolution monitors illuminated the ancient stone walls. Maya stood near the heavy steel vault door, watching Dante orchestrate the defense of their empire. His fingers flew across the mechanical keyboard with terrifying speed, interfacing directly with the cyber-security team he had retained from his days ruling the syndicate.

"They are routing their attacks through proxy servers in Geneva and Macau," Dante analyzed, his eyes fixed on the cascading lines of code. "Vieri is trying to sever our logistical contracts with the unions in Brooklyn. If the unions walk, the ports paralyze. If the ports paralyze, we default on the municipal leases."

"Can you trace the origin of the financial blockade?" Maya asked, stepping closer to place a comforting hand on the back of his neck. Her touch instantly grounded him, pulling him back from the precipice of his old, ruthless rage.

"They are hiding behind a shell corporation registered in Cyprus," Dante murmured, leaning back in his chair. "But they made a critical error, Maya. They underestimated the depth of the intelligence Elena secured before she left. The black ledger wasn't just a list of weapon caches; it contained the digital fingerprints of the Golden Circle's offshore laundering algorithms."

"So, we use their own weapon against them," Maya realized, her brown eyes widening as she understood the magnitude of Dante’s strategy.

"Exactly," Dante replied, a cold, calculating smile touching his lips. "Matteo, get the tech team to isolate the Cyprus routing numbers. We aren't going to just unfreeze our accounts. We are going to infiltrate Vieri’s primary holding network and quietly drain his operational liquidity. By the time he realizes he is hemorrhaging money, he won't be able to afford the mercenaries he hired to threaten us."

"Boss, it’s risky," Matteo warned from the adjacent terminal. "If we trigger their internal tripwires, Vieri will escalate instantly. He won't wait to starve us out. He will send a kinetic strike team to the villa."

"He is already planning a kinetic strike," Dante countered sharply, his pale gray eyes locked onto the security feeds of the dark vineyards outside. "Men like Vieri don't have the patience for a long siege. The financial attack is just a distraction to lower our physical guard. Maya, pack an emergency bag for the kids. If Vieri’s men breach the valley, we need to be ready to move them to the secure fallback point."

Maya nodded, her expression resolute. "I won't let them take this peace from us, Dante. Do whatever it takes to break him."

As Maya hurried up the stone stairs, Dante turned his full, terrifying focus back to the glowing monitors. He was no longer the man who pulled triggers in dark alleys; he was a phantom operating in the digital shadows, preparing to surgically dismantle a billionaire's empire keystroke by keystroke.
