Chapter 48

The digital broadcast Dante initiated bypassed every firewall Vieri had erected, dropping directly into the private, heavily monitored communication channels of the Golden Circle's elite leadership. Dante didn't speak a single word. He simply transmitted the decrypted ledgers, the offshore bank statements, and the undeniable proof of Vieri’s massive embezzlement.
Within thirty minutes, the geopolitical shockwaves reached the Tuscan villa.
Dante sat in the study, watching the live satellite feeds of the valley. The sun was beginning to dip below the rolling hills, casting long, bloody shadows across the vineyards. The encrypted phone on his desk rang. It was Vieri.
Dante answered on the speakerphone.
"What have you done?!" Vieri screamed, his previously cultured, arrogant voice shattered into raw, hysterical panic. The sound of frantic movement and shouting echoed in the background of his call. "The Council just issued a burn order on me! My assets are frozen! My security detail has abandoned me!"
"I told you, Lorenzo," Dante replied, his voice a low, immovable force of nature. "I am going to bury you in the system you worship. You thought you could threaten my family and hide behind your wealth. But wealth is a fragile armor when built on betrayal. The Golden Circle knows you stole from them. You are a dead man walking."
"I will kill you, Russo!" Vieri roared, pure desperation bleeding through the speaker. "The Phantoms are already in the valley! They have their orders! They don't care about my bank accounts; they only care about the contract!"
"Then let them come," Dante said coldly, and severed the connection.
He stood up and walked out to the grand archway of the courtyard. Matteo was already distributing heavy, suppressed rifles to the defense team. The time for digital warfare was over. The physical threat was imminent, and Dante was prepared to shed his peaceful facade to protect the heartbeat of his home.
"Maya, take the children to the vault. Do not open that door for anyone but me or Matteo," Dante ordered, his gray eyes locking with hers in a silent vow of return.
Maya nodded, holding Leo tightly to her chest while grasping Sophia’s hand. She didn't say goodbye. She merely said, "Finish it."
As the heavy steel door of the subterranean vault hissed shut, sealing his family in absolute safety, Dante turned his gaze toward the darkening vineyards. A thick, unnatural fog was beginning to roll in from the hills, obscuring the ancient olive trees. The estate fell into a deathly, expectant silence.

Suddenly, a faint, rhythmic thud echoed from the perimeter. A high-altitude drone had just dropped a localized EMP charge. The villa’s exterior lights shattered, plunging the entire estate into absolute, suffocating darkness.
The Phantoms had arrived.
