Chapter 13 - Veronica was supposed to become indispensable

Greta’s strategy was not:
Marry Adriano and steal everything.
Too childish.
She wanted something more believable.
Step one:
Marriage.
Step two:
Veronica becomes visibly involved in Mina’s care and household management.
Step three:
Veronica joins charitable and family-office structures.
Step four:
Crane capital helps refinance two Lucchesi projects.
Step five:
Joint investment arrangements begin.
Step six:
Estate plans and trustee designations “modernize” to reflect blended family.
Step seven:
Crane influence becomes difficult to remove without financial disruption.
That was the plan.
Long-term integration.
Then Mina resisted Veronica personally.
Why?
Because children notice contempt before adults admit it.
Mina did not want Veronica helping with:
Dressing.
Transfers.
Hair.
Wheelchair setup.
School bags.
She preferred me.
Sofia.
Her longtime aide Beth.
Veronica interpreted that as rejection.
Greta interpreted it as a structural obstacle.
Then came the line:
“After tonight, I’m sending you to an orphanage.”
It was not a literal legal plan.
Veronica had no authority to do that.
It was cruelty.

But it revealed what she wanted emotionally:
Mina out of the way.
