Chapter 15 - Greta tells me I am overreacting
She finally spoke to me with lawyers present.
Greta said:
“You are interpreting contingency planning as conspiracy.”
“Did you know Veronica contacted Hawthorne?”
“Yes.”
“Did you know she wanted Mina boarding?”
“She wanted options.”
“Did you know about the trust amendment?”
“Yes.”
“Did you tell her not to raise it until after marriage?”
Greta paused.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because you become irrational when Mina is involved.”
I almost laughed.
“My five-year-old?”
“You structure your entire life around her.”
“She’s five.”
“She will not always be five.”
“No. But the trust will still be hers.”
Greta leaned back.
“There. That is exactly the rigidity I mean.”
And finally I understood.
She did not believe she was stealing from Mina.
