Chapter 7 - Veronica’s version

Veronica called from her attorney’s office.
I answered once.
“Did you know about this consolidation document?”
Silence.
Then:
“It was only planning.”
“Planning for whose assets?”
“Our future.”
“My companies are not a wedding present.”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“Did you tell Mina I would send her away?”
“No.”
“Mina says you did.”
“She misunderstood.”
“Did you pull her out of her wheelchair?”
Another silence.
“She rammed me.”
“She bumped a plate.”
“She’s spoiled because nobody corrects her.”
I ended the call.
Not because I had heard enough.

Because I knew continuing would produce explanations, not truth.
Documents would do better.
